Jan Stuart, Diabetes Educator at Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust (ShropCom), has been named X PERT Health Educator of the Year 2025. She was selected out of nine nominees, after being nominated by the Community Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service lead for going above and beyond to support those with type 2 diabetes. The national award recognises people who work on the X-PERT training courses which educate and empower people to manage their type 2 diabetes.

Jan said:

“I was blown away to be nominated for Educator of the Year 2025 and to win was a really humbling experience. I started my career as a co-ordinator/administrator and have worked my way up to become the primary educator delivering this national programme locally.”

The ShropCom X-PERT team has also been recognised with several other awards including Highly Commended for vascular risk reduction at six months, second place nationally for reducing diabetes medication at six months, greatest improvement in body weight management at six and 12 months and second place nationally for reducing medication at 12 months.

A spokesperson for X-PERT Health said:

“Jan stood out among nine exceptional nominees thanks to an outstanding nomination that highlighted how she consistently goes above and beyond for her participants. This was further supported by excellent audit data across a wide range of performance metrics, demonstrating real, measurable impact.

“Beyond the data, Jan has shown a longstanding commitment to championing X-PERT programmes in Shropshire, keeping services running despite significant challenges. Her continued engagement with X-PERT events, updates, and feedback has helped shape and strengthen our resources and services over time.”

Jan added:

“I feel so proud to have been recognised for the work I do. It’s a real privilege to be able to help people to improve their lives, health and to understand their condition.”
