Children's phlebotomy service

The Children's Phlebotomy Service provides non-urgent blood tests for children from 18 months to 16 years of age in a Primary Care setting.

Our services

All children are to be referred via a Telford GP. The Parent / carer will be given the contact number for the Children's Community Nurses to ring and make an appointment.

The people we see

The Children's Phlebotomy Services sees infants and children from 18 months up to their 16th birthday who have been referred by a Telford GP only

New patients

An anaesthetic cream should be applied prior to the appointment; this is obtained on prescription from the GP. All children must attend with an adult who has parental responsibility

Services we do not offer

We do not offer services to:

  • Infants under 18 months of age or children over 16 years.
  • Urgent or consultant referrals.

What to bring with you

Patients are reminded to bring the GP referral form along to the appointment.

Frequently asked questions

How do I apply the numbing cream?

The cream needs to be applied 40 minutes before the appointment time on the back of both hands and inside the crook of the elbows. Cover with a dressing or cling film.

Who do I contact for the results of the blood test?
