How does my child get referred?

All referrals come from Community Paediatrics (and Paediatricians from the acute sector, and in some cases other Allied Health Professionals, for First Links). Community Paediatrics accept referrals from a wide range of health professionals working with children e.g. GPs, other health professionals as well as hospital paediatricians, especially paediatric neurologists and neonatologists.

What happens after my child's multidisciplinary assessment?

After your child’s multi-disciplinary assessment and feedback meeting, you will receive a multi-disciplinary report within 5-8 weeks. The report will include an outline of the assessment, your child’s diagnosis, next steps and provision and outcomes for the child’s family and educational setting.

What happens after my child's first links assessment?


After your child’s multi-disciplinary and feedback meeting, you will receive a multi-disciplinary report within 5-8 weeks. The report will include an outline of the assessment, next steps and provision and outcomes for the child’s family and educational setting. Your child will also continue to receive additional support from members of the first links team up until the age of five.

How long after assessment do I receive my report?

We aim to send out all reports within six weeks of your assessment.
