Shropcom weather update - Friday 2 March

Mar 02, 2018

Plenty of snow has fallen across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin in the past few days – with the south of the county particularly badly hit.

As a result, Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust is currently providing community services to essential or critical and essential patients only. This is scheduled to continue until Monday (5 March). We will not be carrying out home visits to non-essential patients during this time.

Essential or critical patients may find that our staff are not able to be with them at the previously agreed appointment time. We will do our best to be with you as promptly as is safely possible.

We apologise for the inconvenience this causes to patients. Please be assured this decision has not been taken lightly, and is necessary in the interests of the safety of our staff.

Please note that outpatient clinics in our Community Hospitals will continue as normal unless they are cancelled by the consultant. In cases where they are cancelled, patients will be contacted in advance to let them know.

Note that all Minor Injury Units across the county – in Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Oswestry and Whitchurch – are open as normal and are a valuable option to people who need treatment for minor injuries. Waiting times in these units are likely to be significantly shorter than at either of the county’s two Accident and Emergency Departments in Shrewsbury and Telford.

We would also like to take this opportunity to encourage people to consider the health needs of any elderly or frail neighbours. Please take the time to visit vulnerable neighbours to check their health and make sure they keep warm and are adequately fed by taking them meals.

You can also help with shopping and home tasks or give them a lift to shops, GP or pharmacy to pick up medications. And, most importantly, watch for illness and make sure they seek help before it becomes more serious.
