Supporting World Breastfeeding Week

Jul 28, 2017

Staff from Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust want mothers to join them in supporting a national campaign to increase breastfeeding rates.

In the West Midlands, the National Infant Feeding Network has decided to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week 2017 (which runs from 1 to 7 August) with a series of celebrations on the theme of working together to increase breastfeeding rates across the world and for a sustained period.

The Breastfeeding Support Team in Telford & Wrekin has decided to do this in the form of two Teddy Bear picnics based at its support groups. They will take place at:

  • The Carpenter Centre, Oak Road, Overdale, TF3 5BT, on Wednesday, 2 August, between 12.30 and 2pm.
  • Newport Infant School, Granville Avenue, Newport, TF10 7DX, on Monday 7 August, between 11am and 12.30pm.

Lesley Reynolds, Infant Feeding Coordinator, said: “We would like current breastfeeding mothers, past breastfeeding mothers and their families and friends who support them to bring a bear, a picnic, and a cup for their drink and knife for their cream tea and blanket or garden chair.

“We plan to create some artwork based on women’s stories about their breastfeeding journey. We will also continue with our #ItsOnlyNatural twitter campaign as this fits with the world theme so well.”
