Managing your records

The health professionals caring for you keep records about your health and any treatment or care you receive from the NHS. These help ensure that you receive the best possible care from us. We have legal obligations, such as compliance with the Data Protection Act (1998), to keep this information safe and secure.

Some information that is held about you on computers will be shared between different parts of the NHS. This is so that health professionals will have the most up-to-date information about you, which could be very important in an emergency situation. You will be asked to give permission before this happens and the Care Record Service explains more about this Summary Care Record.
